The first time I heard mention of  Kym Ellery was in 2010 when she collaborated with Australian 'high street' brand, Sportsgirl. As a 16 year old girl, it was not just Ellery's Madonna-inspired, tiger print collection that earned my love and allegience to her designs (though that probably would of been enough). It was, in fact, Kym Ellery herself, a young, pretty, Australian, with coloured ombre hair and undeniable talent.
Three years on, I am older, wiser, more fashion-obsessed, and still a die-hard ELLERY fan. Her work never ceases to amaze me, and I find myself going to elleryland.com on a daily basis, pining over the sculptured maxi dresses and metallic jackets. I'm harbouring a particular obsession with the CITY THUNDER PLEAT FRONT SHORTS...Now I just need a big fat pay check to realise my dreams!

Here are a few of my favourite looks from the Fall 2013 collection.

If I were to make one, Zoe Kravitz would definitely come close to topping my list of celebrity style icons. I love her grungy yet feminine style, her nude makeup, and her tattoos. Plus she has the ultra cool Lenny Kravitz as a father (a true DILF, if I may say so) and is dating good old Dan Humphries. I am yet to see much of her acting, but from what I hear, she is doing well in that too...seriously, she is near perfect! And then, just when I thought this girl couldn't get any radder, she went out and got a septum piercing. And I LOVE IT!!!

Move over Jennifer Lawrence, there is a new girl crush in town!

I love this dress. With a passion.

Yes, it is taking barely there dressing to a whole new level, but I personally like the way it looks and the way Carrie wears it: bold, sexy, casual, and radiant. No wonder Big couldn't keep his hands off her.

This dress is so blatantly sexual and yet, through the unexpected nude colour and a significant lack of lace, it somehow escapes the 'slut' label and becomes sartorially sound, and even respected. Not that the slut label should even exist (insert feminist rant here)

To get a better look at the famous naked dress and watch some quality television, check out Sex and the City, season 1, episode 6. And then watch all the seasons and all the episodes and then maybe skip the movies and watch The Carrie Diaries instead...

There we go, weekend sorted!

This is a filler post. A blatant, unashamed, yo-I'm-up-in-yo-grillz filler post.

At the same time, this post is an inspiring one. It is like a page of the fashion scrapbook I've been keeping since I was twelve, or a segment of the mood board I want to pin above my desk. This post is here to look at, to dream about, to wish for... and I think that is okay.

A post doesn't have to be overflowing with intelligent words or personal style photos taken in the Botanical Gardens. It can just be a thought, an idea, something that was so beautiful you just couldn't help but share it. That's why I love blogging. We all just go around sharing our thoughts and discovering brilliant things we may never have noticed had we not joined the online fashion community.

Like these boots. Thigh High Boots. And not the sex shop patent leather kind; I'm talking care free, bohemian, lounge-around-the-house-looking-fab boots.

I am in love love love with Vanessa Hudgen's style at the moment. The white on white ensemble at Coachella is what did it for me, plus she has the ultimate arm candy in hunky boyfriend, Austin Butler. The outfit above is just another reason to give Hudgens some R-E-S-P-E-C-T and let her Gabriella days fall into the deep, dark corners of my mind. Teaming that Mink Pink dress with a pair of bad ass lace up boots was just beauty waiting to happen, and I am so freaking proud of Vanessa for taking the plunge and doing it.

The second picture is just photographic perfection starring Lily Kwong and a pair of amazing Joseph Altuzarra boots. You can find out more at Garance Dore, blogger extraordinaire.

Anyway, that's enough filler for today. See you tomorrow!

Today I decided to stop being so damn lazy and actually attend my Media and Society lecture...for the first time since I began the course 5 weeks ago...woops?

Anyway, despite dragging myself out of bed and hitting up my local caffeine spot for not one, not two, but three soy flat whites (!), I couldn't be bothered wearing anything remotely constricting/high-heeled/smexy. Ideally I would have slipped on a pair of silk pajamas to get on the whole from-bed-to-breakfast-in-town trend, but a lack of said ensemble led me to this outfit: comfy jumper, comfy skirt, comfy shoes, and comfy beanie for lazy, comfy, unwashed hair.

I was actually surprised at how much I liked this outfit. I find that midi skirts are quite flattering and the tight fit helped to balance the bagginess of the jumper. I added the Docs, choker, and beanie to up the grunge vibe that I am currently obsessed with (see every post I've done ever) and make me look like I'd at least attempted to look presentable...

I think midi skirts might have to become a regular feature in my university wardrobe; they are ultra comfortable and really easy to style.

Kaszëbë legenda o miłości [Kaszëbë legend of love] 1970
Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne

It was a giant hand, fingers free yet not reaching.
There were colours: green, blue, more green, white, blue, more white, more blue, then black.
The boat didn't look like any I had ever seen; it didn't get lost in the ocean as boats usually do, insignificant dots in the endless blue. Instead it was obvious, centered in the hand that was centered on the page.
The words weren't obvious. I didn't notice them at first, and even then I hardly saw them at all. What I did see meant little to me; these were foreign words that sounded ugly on my foreign tongue. They were strange to me as I am sure I was strange to them, and yet we strangers shared that sight; we shared that hand and those clouds and that big boat swimming in a tiny sea.

Oh how I want to be with St Kilda
When the Saints go marching in!

Jack and I made our way over to the sunny suburb of St Kilda (alliteration much?) and its neighbouring Elwood, home to my cousin Nandi, her assortment of pot plants, and an inquisitive magpie who is yet to be named.
The vibe in that part of town is worlds away from what I am used to: it is beachy. hip, and a little more free if that makes sense. St Kilda really buzzes too; it's well and truly alive, cafe chairs spilling onto the crowded pavement, accommodating tattooed patrons in Ray Bans and fedora hats. It promotes a strangely casual chaos, encouraging both afternoon drinks and patisserie-fuelled sugar rushes.
We decided to skip the sweet treats available at the 1, 2, 3 (!!) bakeries, and headed to the beach with a picnic basket and homemade hummus. Despite being a far cry from the glorious Byron beaches I grew up on, it was nice to feel the sea breeze again. We did some tandem skate boarding (which, of course, ended with falling over), walked along the pier, and marveled at a guy flying above the ocean in some sort of jet pack...?
All in all, it was a brilliant day and I really do love that part of Melbourne. I'll have to start visiting Nandi more often!

The boys are (back) in town!

My little brother, Jack, and his friend, Jahan, were in Melbourne for the weekend and, as the (new) local, I decided to take them on a bit of a city tour, Sydney Road included.
I spent the first 10 years of my life living in Brunswick, so every time I go there I can't help but feel at home. I particularly love Sydney Rd, not only because it brings back lots of lovely memories,  but because of all the fun it has to offer: cheap eats, quirky boutiques, and people (hipster) watching. The fact that it is home to thrifting mecca Savers is not to be ignored either. I picked up a couple of books, while Jack trawled through the trillions of coats and Jahan bought a Ben Sherman shirt covered in submarines.

Happy Birthday Uncle Sam!

You may be getting older but "don't think twice, it's all right"

Jeans- American Apparel
Mesh shirt- thrifted
Denim shirt- thrifted
Bralette- asos
Shoes- Topshop

I just got back from a weekend in the lovely country town of Castlemaine. I went up for a birthday party (Happy 40th, Uncle Sam!!) and while I was there I had a sudden stroke of inspiration. Must have been all those cottages and gold mines and whatever else rural Victoria is renowned for...

Anyway, this country-induced bout of creativity culminated in this outfit, which is basically my take on the very best fashion faux pas: denim-on-denim! I am a big fan of the vulgar; I love it when I see a girl wearing something so excessively tacky that it looks awesome. It's all about wearing your clothes with pride, an idea I tried to channel as I caught the train back to Melbourne town, donning this number. Yep, denim on denim is totally back in my books!
